Happy Anniversary, Redeem

Although I couldn't stay long, I managed to pop into Redeem's 5 year anniversary party featuring Columbian designers, A New Cross. The collection seemed to focus on rich, quality materials with very asymmetrical designs. I really appreciated the unique designs and versatility of each piece.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to stay for the fashion show- I had to prepare to walk for Ready Set DC's Fashion:District show. More to come on that! Check out The President Wears Prada and The Feast for more on Redeem's anniversary party.

Opening Anthropologie

Participating in the opening of Washington DC's newest Anthropoligie was a blast. I've always appreciated the craftsmanship, art, detail and effort the store expresses to the customer. Until this past week, I never knew the extent of thoroughness and attention behind all the creativity. 

Among many other things, each tassel, gourd, yarn, copper pipe, hanger cover, and silverware holder were handmade and crafted in the store. It was impressive and commendable to observe, learn, and create what was required instead of mass production, making each store unique. 

And, yes, I admired and drooled over the clothes and house ware as well. I have to state that using my hands and producing something was extremely gratifying!

what remains of DCFW

I was slightly lazy and didn't post the events as I went. Sorry. So, here are the remains of fashion week which include: a networking party hosted by Dirty Bar, the menswear show and an art event that featured Artaya by Dana Ayanna Greaves. The Artaya show was by far my favorite show. The designs, materials, patterns and outfitting were so funky and original.

Alexa Chung

Not the best picture, I know. Alexa Chung was a guest at Georgetown's Madewell to launch her new partnership. This photo was taken just as she was leaving. In an effort to make it on time, I managed to ruin my silk pants; and was extremely late.  Note to self: Do not wear silk and ride your bike.

DCFW day one

The energy at Perkins +Will architecture firm last night was, eh, sustainable? It was also exciting and inspiring and motivating! DC Fashion Week debuted with the Eco-Fashion Show, in which the designers used sustainable and eco-friendly materials.  It was a great reminder to be conscious of the environment and to minimize our carbon footprint- even through fashion.

H Street Festival

DC's H Street Festival was overflowing with culture, diversity and a wide array of entertainment. From fashion shows to pie eating contests, the festival offered enjoyment for everyone. I took the role of a spectator and observed the fest while sitting on the curb. People watching is one of my favorite pastimes.
